There are many different types of martial arts such as judo, tae kwon do, aikido, mixed martial arts etc. However, one of the most famous and popular types is Brazilian jiu jitsu gi. This martial art is probably one of the most applicable and useful fighting methods that can help you in a real fight. It basically teaches you how to defend against an opponent that is bigger and stronger than you by using very little to no strength. This is an excellent self defense technique that can help both men and women.

The best part of learning jiu jitsu is that it teaches you how to fight against strikes as well as on the ground. Since the majority of fights end up on the ground, it is essential that you know how to defend yourself there. This martial art is one of the few that is practical to real life fights and many law enforcement agencies as well as military usually train their officers in the form.

There are many reasons why people want to learn this form of fighting and it is essential that you identify your reason before learning it. One of the main reasons why people start this martial art is to learn how to defend themselves. In this case, this martial art will definitely teach you a few excellent self defense moves as well as how to fend off an attacker. If you train for this reason, then you're probably not interested in competing on a professional level.

Those who want to learn for competitions can gain much by learning this sport on both a physical and mental level. There are usually many competitions that are held throughout the year and you can take part in these.

However, before you actually start, you need to find a good school to learn and train with. There are many ways that you can find ones in your area such as searching on internet, telephone directories or simply by referral and recommendation. You should make a list of schools that you can check out personally in order to determine which is the best fit for you. When you look at instructors, you need to make sure they are fully certified black belts and are certified to train and run a dojo. They should also be in existence for awhile so you know they are not a fly by night school.

You should only be trained by an instructor that has a black belt than someone with a lower belt. The reason for this is that they wouldn't have the extensive training and experience as someone with a black belt and would not be able to teach you properly. They would act as more of a training partner than a teacher.

The last factor that we will be looking at is the attitudes of the instructor and his/her students. If you find that they have poor attitudes or have inflated egos, then you should probably stay away from this school. Also, you need to pay attention to how well they teach and make sure that they do not use too much force when sparring with you.

Those were a few quick tips on how to choose a good Brazilian jiu jitsu gi school and get started learning this art form.

MMA Conor McGregor Releases Statement On Retirement | SevereMMA.com - UFC, Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), Irish MMA MMA LIFE SHOP

Yoga is an ancient Indian practice, built for meditation and revered for it's effect on the human body. Martial arts are a form of precise fighting, originating in the East and spreading world wide as far as it could have. So, how then, could the two be combined to make a complete art? What are the benefits behind this combination and what styles of martial arts is it used for, if any? The benefits are many - since martial arts require discipline of the body and yoga teaches this, you have more control and flexibility. People that practice muay thai and Brazilian jiujitsu benefit most from using yoga because of their dependency on grappling and ground fighting, and also breathing control. Chuck Liddell, Ken Shamrock, Diego Sanchez has even been known to endorse, knowing the benefits of yoga and making the most of it.

Yoga is a series of mental and physical disciplines and is associated with meditative practice. The goal of which, of course, is to lead the practitioner to spiritual enlightenment, but it also has it's effects on the body as well. With the practice of yoga comes increased flexibility, intense bodily control, breathing control, and mental clarity - all of which are important to practicing martial arts, because you are teaching your body these things as well, and this is one of the reasons that yoga and martial arts go hand in hand, especially to those who practice MMA, muay thai, or Brazilian Jiujitsu.

Muay Thai one martial art that relies on bodily control. Most of the moves are dependent on the gyration of the hips to drive the blows home to their destination - even on simple kicks and punches. It uses eight points of contact to strike and requires excellent balance, extreme concentration and fast reflexes - all of which can be achieved and strengthened by using yoga.

Brazilian Jiujitsu is another form of martial arts that is reliant on holds and grappling and there is a lot of ground rolling as well. The holds and grappling must be tight enough for the opponent not to wriggle free, and they must be held and concentrated upon for them to work properly. This is something that yoga will also teach us. It can, in fact, improve function so much that prize fighters often use yoga and endorse it as a tool that has helped them win.

Fighters such as Diego Sanchez have proudly boasted that yoga has helped his concentration and has worked to improve his mind. He claims that this form of meditation, along with physical drills is the best way to train. Other fighters agree. Ken Shamrock and Chuck Liddell are two of the most famous mixed martial artists and they also advocate yoga as a key to their training. Shamrock even has his own routine of yoga combined with mixed martial arts to train himself with the utmost discipline and readiness. All of them agree, and many physical trainers and other experts say that yoga is good practice for any sport, but especially mixed martial arts.

Whether in a high risk area, such as the inner city, or relatively orderly and peaceful places like Alexandria and Woodbridge, Taekwando, Jeet Kune Do and similar martial arts moves can come in handy in cases of emergencies such as muggings and bullying.

The Need For Self-Defense

Would you ever really need to learn self-defense moves in a quiet place such as Northern Virginia's Woodbridge? Taekwando and other martial arts disciplines teach you that when it comes to self-defense, it's good to know some of the basic moves, yet you hope you never have to use them.

Still, the fact that martial arts are taught means that there are times when they may be needed once in a while. Say, for instance, that you've come from a late shift and have to walk down a dark valley somewhere in the outskirts of Alexandria or Woodbridge. Taekwando moves- the most basic ones- can spell the difference between getting home confidently and safely or being nervous and perhaps drawing attention to yourself.

Here are a few of the basic Taekwando moves one can use in emergencies.

Avoid and Evade

Whether in Seoul or Woodbridge, Taekwando basics are the same, and often take the form of very simple moves. And when it comes to self-defense, students are taught that the first rule is to avoid the attack. Get out of the way. This is why in most martial arts the first thing one learns is footwork. In many cases of an attack, a simple sidestep will be sufficient to throw your attacker off balance, and allow you the advantage.

Blocking

The next move one needs to make after getting out of the way of a fist or an attack is the block. The most common move, after stepping sideways out of harms way, is to block the punch with an open, relaxed hand. The more relaxed you are, the more effective the block will be.

Taking Control

After avoiding being hit and blocking the punch, the next step is to make sure one stays safe. There are two ways to do this- the most obvious one, of course, is to run fast to safety. This is not always possible, especially if you are cornered, and cannot get to the nearest police station or somewhere you can call the authorities in Alexandria or Woodbridge. Taekwando training comes in handy in this situation, especially since chances are your attacker is now even angrier at being blocked and more set on completing the attack. You will need to make sure you are in control. One way to ensure this is to grab the attacker's wrist and push it upward, while keeping your body balanced in a solid stance, with the other hand poised to strike.

Still, simple moves are often not very simple at all, especially in the case of an emergency such as an attempted mugging. This is why whether you're in a big city like New York or a smaller, quieter place like Woodbridge, Taekwando training will come in handy in order to achieve the awareness, grace and movement to pull it off effectively. Training in a Taekwando and other martial arts school, with expert instructors can help. With time, practise and expert training, simple self-defense moves (and even more advanced techniques) can help keep you safe.

MMA Amir Khan wants to fight UFC legend Conor McGregor TWICE - in mixed martial arts with no holds barred and boxing MMA LIFE SHOP

Knockout Full Contact Karate is a very broad definition that defines a knockout as a win and light contact sparring where a knockout is considered a foul. It is also used to define different styles and schools of Karate that utilize the full contact methodology in their teachings. There are several different formats for this sport. Each format has a different history and was developed in different places as well as at different times.

Some of these styles were independently developed, however, others were developed from full contact systems, light contact system or a hybrid of both. There is no one governing organization that organizes and controls all the different formats used. The rules can change substantially between not only independent organizations but with different promoters. Some organizations remain loyal to a specific set of rules. Some go back and forth between several different rule formats.

There have even been cases where the Tournament Rules would arbitrarily switch right in the middle of a competition, and right between rounds within the same fight. Full Contact Point Karate is one popular style that is used a lot. With this style if you knock your opponent out you still win the match and you will not be disqualified. Points are aggregated for clean hits to certain parts of the opponents body. If there is no knockdown or knockout, the bout is purely judged by points accumulated during the match.

Although Martial Arts Protective Gear is commonly worn, all punches and kicks are full contact. This form of Martial Arts is mainly practiced in North America, however, it is also practiced in Europe just less frequently. Taekwondo also uses a similar competition format. Taekwondo places a large emphasis on kicking. American Full Contact Karate is another variation used which started in the 1960's and 1970's. It borrowed a lot of the methodologies and rules from Western Boxing. There are no round breaks offered with this style in the bout.

Over the years past many decades, Judo Karate, Martial Arts, and Kung Fu have become one of the world's most strenuous forms of art. This exquisite art of self defense and attack demands severe discipline from mind and body alike. Originated in Japan, Karate involves various techniques of punching, kicking, locking, and knee and elbow striking. It is a striking art which can be practiced as a sport, combat sport or as self-defense training. However, the traditional karate emphasizes more on self defense, helping an individual to develop better reflexes, as well as provide a full body workout. Although Karate is more about the different fighting techniques and karate moves, one thing that can not go unnoticed is the different colored karate belts. There are various colors for Karate Belts such as simple black and white to vibrant yellow and blue, which always catch attention and signify the rank of the practitioner wearing them. Kano Jigoro is considered to be the founder of judo and he is also responsible to create the belt ranking system to signify the progress of his students. In the year 1883, the founder of Judo Kano formally introduced belt ranking system. Subsequently in the year 1907, Kano started using traditional white and black colors for modem gi and modem obi, however, in few years; martial art forms adopted a new custom and started using different colored sashes to determine the rank. Each martial arts form has its own belt color order in accordance to its rank structure.

MMA Conor McGregor issues statement, says he's not retired after all - MMA Fighting MMA LIFE SHOP

That's the question that has been bothering me for years. And probably like you, I have a natural bias to support my decision based on what I am... a BJJer. But in spite of that bias, I'm gonna tackle this question as objectively as possible to support my theory. So, just bear with me before you call me an idiot.

Ok, the answer to the question are wrestlers tougher than BJJers is... yes and no.

Why, you ask?

The reason that I say wrestlers are tougher than BJJers is because of the way they train and the mindset that's ingrained (overtly and covertly) within the training. If you've ever been around wrestlers for any period of time, it's easy to notice common traits they possess, regardless of whether they're pee-wee, master/veterans level wrestler, and every level in

between.

And what stands out in my mind about wrestlers are these common characteristics:

- They're always aggressive on the mat

- They usually attack first

- They're not afraid to work hard, even to point of complete exhaustion

- They'll fight anybody, regardless of size

- They're all a little cocky about their skill set

- They believe they can beat anyone in the world that faces them

- They don't quit on themselves during a match and if they do, they're destroying something as soon as the match is over

- They hate losing at anything

- They basically evaluate grapplers in two categories: you're either tough or a punk

Now, are those characteristics that BJJers don't possess? No, that's not what I'm saying at all.

It's not that BJJers can't have that tough mindset that I've mentioned above because many do, especially those schools that are involved in various competitive events (e.g. BJJ Tourneys, MMA Events, etc).

What I believe is the way that BJJ has been marketed (e.g. an art for a smaller man to win against a bigger man, technique not strength, etc.) for average Joe has made it easier for the "toughness" aspect to be downplayed (or even removed) from the daily training, especially when a certain amount of people are paying to learn how to grapple as a recreational activity.

And since instructors must create friendly training environments where all students (from MMAers to couch potatoes) can train and not feel physically overwhelmed, it's easy for an environment to evolve

where an instructor or coach has to:

- "Protect" certain grapplers from training with other grapplers

- Allow grapplers to skip certain part of the workout (e.g. warm-ups) so they won't be too tired

- Allow grapplers to not train because they're getting tired and don't want to lose

- Avoid certain training situations (e.g. takedowns) for fear of injury or it's too exhausting

- Displaying passive behavior on the mat

- Quitting during matches with impunity

And while that may be the "right" thing to do as far as business is concerned, that approach makes it easy to remove the element of toughness that's automatically ingrained within BJJ training to make it "safer and friendly" for the potential student.

And once many students realize how demanding the training can be, they usually quit before ever achieving a purple or even a blue belt.

What's the solution for the BJJer? Well, I think the solution lies in the question itself. I don't really think it's important to improve who's tougher, but I think it's quite obvious that we should lean towards wrestlers to learn how to engrain the tough mental mindset into grappling training, for grapplers of all ages to learn.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art that focuses on grappling, ground fighting as well as street fighting techniques that are important for self-defense. It is different from other martial arts such as karate and judo that focus on hitting and striking the opponent. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu involves techniques that are to be used without hurting your opponent. It requires extensive training to gain expertise in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and carry out the techniques as desired. The training methods involve warm-up sessions, learning the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques and then practicing against full resistance.

The warm-up sessions include push-ups, running laps, crunches or other exercises as your trainer deems fit for you. This is followed by learning basic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques such as mount positions, armlock, chokes, close/open guard, and so on. In most cases, you will be partnered with someone on a mat to learn these techniques.

The next methods in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training would be drilling and sparring which form the practice part of your training. Drilling and sparring may be divided into sub-categories such as solo drill, cooperative 2 persons drill and finally sparring. Let's look into all the methods briefly.

Solo drills: In this method, you need to practice few Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques, movements or positions by yourself. This method is used during the warm-up sessions after you have learned the techniques.

Cooperative 2 persons drill: In this, you practice a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu movement or technique against a non-resisting partner. This method helps you to develop a movement and apply it practically.

Sparring: This method allows you to practice Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques against a competitor with full resistance. An instance of sparring is when you try to escape from your partner when he has gained a mount position over you with full force. In sparring, you can use any legal technique of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to submit your partner and hence, it is close to a fight in a real competition.

MMA Conor McGregor Announces He's Not Retired, Ready for UFC 200 | Bleacher Report MMA LIFE SHOP

MMA training, known as mixed martial arts in full, has quickly gained popularity as a sport as well as an exercise activity taken up by countless of people throughout the globe. The complete physical combat activity involves the utilization of the grappling and striking techniques. As its name suggests, this activity comprises of several contact sports including; the Brazilian jiu jitsu, kickboxing, wrestling and karate. So, why are many people taking up the combat activity as a professional sport and for exercise?

The mixed martial arts training are conducted in modern-day gyms, which specialize in providing training sessions covering the combat sports exclusively. Like in ancient Olympic, where the Greek used the spurring activity to gauge strength and foster the comrade spirit; modern-day MMA training greatly borrows from the Roman's ancient wrestling activities. The Japanese and Americans have in particular taken up the martial arts training and integrated grappling styles from jiu jistu, as well as other fighting styles borrowed from other contact sports. Those who train in the mixed arts get opportunities to show-off their newly acquired skills by participating in scheduled matches.

Above all, the MMA training helps the person undertaking it to acquire a 'ripped' body. The mixed martial arts require dedication, and the sport fuses circuit training which is known to tone the body as well as burn the excessive fat stores found in the body. Circuit training basically involves switching between various conditioning exercises, with minimal breaks in-between. It is a worthwhile exercise activity to take up, because it is fun and results in the consequent loss of weight.

There are people who say that the sense of belonging that derives from the MMA training sessions is priceless. In this day and age, it is difficult to meet new people regularly and form camaraderie friendships with them. The contact sports allow those who take part in them to develop possibly life-long friendships. Those who train together help each other to grow, both in the sport and in the team spirit development process. They train with each other and uplift those who are lagging behind by helping them to master challenging spurring techniques.

The gyms which conduct the MMA training sessions open their doors to everyone who is interested in learning the mixed combat sports. It is always advised that new members should approach the sport as a friendly activity, as opposed to focusing on the competitive aspect of the training sessions. In these gyms, those training together derive energy and support from each other; a positive attitude goes a long way when it comes to fitting-in and working well with other people who are also training in the sport.

Last but not least, the MMA training can end up being a life long undertaking. Every person would like to participate in an activity or sport that they can always fall back on as a source of solace. There is no better sport that the mixed martial arts that can provide a balanced combination of sportsmanship and team spirit, which most people search for in recreational activities.

MMA From Bones to Meat: How UFC 197 Star Jon Jones Reinvented Himself in the Gym | Bleacher Report MMA LIFE SHOP

You are walking down the street when a dozen Arabs on Choppers begin to ride around you. They were trained in special Spetznatz ninja techniques by the CIA, what you gonna do? Fortunately, you are prepared, you are wearing pants, and they are held up by that most deadly of all martial arts dreaded belt!

Now, you think I am kidding, but I am not. You are about to get a lesson in, uh, belt fu. Or Belt-kido, or whatever.

First, always make sure the belt you are wearing is medium thickness and smooth. You need to be able to jerk it out of the loops in one easy motion. Then grasp rip that belt firmly, and get ready to kick a king size serving of ass!

The buckle portion is excellent for use as a brass knuckles. Grip it firmly, make sure you don't hit in such a fashion that your own knuckles will break. Then, belt held tight, smack away with impudence.

If you have sharp edges on the buckle it can be used to slice and dice. Heck, swinging the belt as a flail or a whip, you can make mincemeat out of a home intruder. Just make sure it doesn't bounce back and shave your own pretty face!

Now, here's something for those of you with a bit of discipline and rocks, the kind of rocks you pick up off the ground. You can use the belt as a sling! Can anybody spell Goliath out there?

Now, believe it or not, there are actually six techniques covered in the last paragraphs, though you might have to sort them out. So what is the seventh technique? Use your belt to tie, wrap or choke somebody.

Okey dokey and ain't this more fun than a barrel of Tai Chi Masters, that's a lot of stuff you can do with a simple piece of don't get me started on using some dirty, old socks. One thing to be careful of, however, please make sure your pants won't fall fall when you pull the belt out...pulling your pants off in the middle of an alley brawl isn't good strategy, unless your attacker is going to die of laughter. And, all points being made, That is how you make Seven Deadly Martial Arts Weapons out of a strap of leather with a chunk of iron on the tip.

MMA Aikido Owes Its Existence to Osensei's Flexibility MMA LIFE SHOP

In the Chinese classic work, Tao Te Ching said to be written by Lao Tzu around the 6th century BC, there is somewhat a poem which can say a lot about the virtues of flexibility.

Men are born soft and supple;

Dead, they are stiff and hard.

Plants are born tender and pliant;

Dead, they are brittle and stiff.

Thus whoever is stiff and inflexible is a disciple of death.

Whoever is soft and yielding is a disciple of life.

The hard and stiff will always be broken.

The soft and supple will prevail.

In one of my previous articles, I have touched the topic on flexibility and how it factored much in aikido especially on the aspects of executing the techniques. In this article, I have more to discuss on flexibility, and at this point, I have come to realise that aikido is indeed a lesson in flexibility.

How can you develop your flexibility? Having browsed an aikido forum website, some practitioners suggested that one take up yoga and even Pilates and stretching before training. How do these things translate into aikido? Certain yoga practices and stretching techniques helped them stretch their shoulders even more, which comes beneficial in the correct positioning of the hand grasping techniques especially the nikyo and sankyo. And these also help in their execution of lock techniques.

Digging more into the physical sense of flexibility, Osensei Ueshiba Morihei had indeed shown his flexibility when he developed aikido: Who else would teach to martial arts students about blending in with the force or energy of our attacker instead of fighting or opposing it? Is not that way too radical? No. O-Sensei was just being flexible in his definition on martial arts as martial arts was on its way to become a sport for completion or fighting rather than being a way of life.

The poem above would best described Osensei as being an open and flexible master of martial arts. This he showed when he emphasised harmonisation over contention when facing aggression or conflict whether physical or verbal. Refusing to skirt around the standard option of martial arts ('win or lose') and not wanting his students to get harmed, he told the early students not to simple fight back by being as aggressive as our attackers. Instead, we exploit the attacker's energy to neutralise their aggression. It is not to attack, but to divert the attack.

People with the conventional definition of martial arts would end up getting hurt in the process because they refuse to be open and be flexible in their understanding of martial arts, especially on self-defence. One should learn from Osensei: You need to let go of your habitual and reactive tendencies to defend thy self. Instead, you should be open to feel undefended. For those who are not aware about aikido, this may sound non-sense especially if they do not understand the meaning behind the paradox.

Aikido owes its existence to Osensei's flexibility. This is not only evident in the practice of Sydney aikido. He even worked to allowed the techniques be flexible for certain practitioners and for certain events. This is why there is no such thing as 'styles' but only 'techniques'. Furthermore, did not he allow his students to develop their own variations of the techniques? This we will look up to in future articles.

With the new rise of the UFC, Strike Force and other popular Mixed Martial Arts organizations many people have realized the importance of learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Originally Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was made popular by Royce Gracie defeating all his opponents via submission when it was technically style vs. style. Royce Gracie was also known for always wearing a Bjj Gi when he would compete in Mixed Martial Arts. He did this to emphasize the importance of the Bjj Gi for MMA.

Today, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has become the most important martial art to learn in a MMA fight, and those who do not understand this concept tend not to do so well in MMA. Since MMA fights are fought without any type of traditional martial art uniform many people may believe that to learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu you don't need to train in the BJJ Gi. They are wrong. Jiu-Jitsu is a very technical sport which teaches you with technique and how to defeat the bigger opponent. Training in a Jiu Jitsu Gi is very crucial for any fighter to understand the intricate technique that comes with all the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu moves.

Training in your Bjj Gi will teach you grip strength which is very important in Jiu Jitsu. It also helps you by giving you more submission options compared to no gi training where the submissions are limited. The wider variety of possible submissions gives you more options to think about when going for the submission on your opponent during a fight. This teaches you much better technique when it comes to any sort of fighting. It will also benefit your Jiu Jitsu game in Mixed Martial Arts by getting you to think outside the box to figure out new and innovative ways to grapple and finish off your opponents with a submission victory. If you look at some of the best UFC fighters out there right now such as BJ Penn, GSP, Frank Mir, Anderson Silva, Gabriel Gonzaga, George Satorapolus, etc. you will quickly realize how all of these fighters training Jiu Jitsu in a BJJ Gi as part of their training schedule. When you ask them why they do so, they will tell you the technique learned from training in the Jiu Jitsu Gi is what makes them do it. Tradition is always a great thing to keep in life.

MMA How To Avoid Critical Mistakes In Mma Sparring That May Keep You Out Of Training For Weeks At A Time MMA LIFE SHOP

Because of the great number of contact that opposing athletes get in training and sparring, It is important that we exercise great concern to guarantee that we don't hurt our fellow team members. Your partner is your coach and you are your partner's coach while training Competitiveness is in our nature, but we cannot allow it to come before our teammates' safety and well-being. In order to put up the most excellent of training and sparring, we have to meet every safety measures needed in a contact sport.

Before you get involve in a martial art or contact sport, Ensure yourself first that you are physically fit enough to join. Protective gear together with a protective training surroundings is a requirement. The type of protective equipment will vary from sport to sport or art to art. Bottom line is this- if you do not have the proper equipment, you should not participate. If you have been training long enough to be able to spar, you should have the proper equipment. Be certain all the mats (or flooring) are dry, and the chosen sparring place is free from any clutter.

Obey the three C's rule Manong Inosanto, while training:

1. Cooperative

2. Contested

3. Competition

Protecting your partner in training is crucial. You won't have anybody to train with if you harm or injure your partner. In addition, chances are that observation by other team members will cause them to avoid from training with you out of fear of getting injured.

There are 3 things you must employ while you are training:

1. Proactive communication with your partner; Ask your partner if they want to slow it down or if they can pick up the pace.

2. EGO-LESS training: everyone has an ego, but it needs to be left at the door at the time when you are sparring or training.

3. Use only your skeleton: try to avoid muscling everything and use only your skeleton.

Sparring is necessary to evaluate ourselves and our training. Sparring is designed to super charge our:

A. Technical ability

B. Conditioning

C. Timing

Sparring is not aimed to tell who's the strongest one in the academy! This doesn't mean spar lightly the whole time or not at all. There is a time and place when you need to go 60% and a time when you need 80%.Controlled sparring or light sparring can be an excellent way to spike your learning curve. Light sparring allows you to work on the moves that you have not yet perfected. If every time you tried something new and it got shut down immediately, you would always go back to the things you are good at. It would severely stunt your training progression.

If you find yourself training or sparring with someone who is not as skilled as you, one method to enhance your skills is to get the spot or area that you want the most improvement on and you have your partner strike you from that spot. Therefore, you can both benefit from the sparring, since you have centered solely on an area of improvement. This will as well avoid the self-esteem of your less-skilled or less-experienced partner from being reduced due to domination on the mat.

There are two things that you have complete command over and those two things are your attitude and your effort; when you put your best attitude and effort forward you and those around you will be rewarded with a fun filled, learning atmosphere.

If you run a martial arts school, or dojo, that is targeted towards children, you know how very challenging this type of martial arts marketing can be. You want to attract the children, but the parents are the ones who pay, so you must attract them as well. What works to attract the kids might not work for the parents. Marketing is imperative to the success of your school and deserves careful thought and planning.

The key is to garner the enthusiasm of the kids and the dollars of the parents. To attract the enthusiasm of the kids, they will need to see your art in action. This means demonstrations or participation in a class. For the parents, they need to see information about martial arts in general, your dojo in particular, and the reasons why learning a martial art will benefit their child.

Six Ways to Market Your Martial Arts School to Children

Printed Flyers: Many schools, both public and private, will distribute flyers to all students at no charge beyond your cost of printing. This is probably the best way to blanket all the children in an area with information about your school. Many schools also allow ads to be placed in their school newsletter as a way to cover costs. This should be explored if they do not allow flyers to be sent out.

Free Demonstrations: There are so many opportunities to provide free martial arts demonstrations - along with information about your school. Some examples include school functions, community events, and private club functions (such as the YMCA). Seeing martial arts in action, especially if children are participating in the demonstration, will surely attract more kids. Make sure you have a special offer such as a free introductory course ready for everyone in the audience.

Gift Certificates: You can donate a gift certificate to a school fundraising event, such as an auction or raffle. This gets the name of your school in front of all the parents and will give one child (and parent) a chance to try out your school with a free month or free private lesson.

Buddy Day: Having current students invite a friend for one free session is a great way to sign-up new students. The parents like the "free" part and the kids will want to participate in an activity with their friends. This works best by having a contest or a prize for every student who brings a friend.

Printed T-shirts or Sweatshirts: Having current students wear the emblem of your dojo to their school is like having free walking billboards. Also, the kids like the idea of advertising their involvement in something special.

Special Events: Offering self-defense classes or birthday parties can attract the parents, who in turn will sign up their kids for your school. Moms will come to a self-defense for women class and will take you up on your suggestion that teaching defense to their children is a great idea. Again, have a special promotion for all the participants to try your martial arts classes at a special reduced rate or for free for a month.

Martial arts marketing is all about identifying the customer and catering to that niche group. In this case, the children and their parents are your target. The parents will want to know that their child is in the best hands to learn not only the martial arts but most parents are looking for character building aspects as well. Your mastery of your art is imperative to the quality of your instruction. Your mastery of martial arts marketing is imperative to the success of your school.

MMA Combat Jujitsu - What Is The Hottest Martial Arts Trend Today? MMA LIFE SHOP

Combat Jujitsu is one of the hottest trends in martial arts today. In fact, a lot of martial arts masters are creating a new and unique form of all martial arts known as combat martial arts. Learning combat Jujitsu can have a lot of benefits.

Jujitsu is a very skilled martial arts that uses a lot of different moves such as holds, mounting, grappling, takedowns, and a whole lot more. If you are persistent, determined and disciplined you can learn Combat Jujitsu and experience an entirely new level of personal development through it.

Jujitsu is an ancient martial art originating from the country of Japan, and was created in the 1500s. The ancient martial art of Jujitsu combines all of the grappling, holds, mounting, and takedown moves with relaxing and beneficial meditations.

Judo was actually developed from the ancient martial art of Jujitsu in the 1800s by a man named Jigoro Kano. Jigoro Kano took a variety of different techniques from other masters of Jujitsu and meshed them together into Judo. Kano called this form of Jujitsu and Judo ?Kadokan Judo?. Kano soon found out that his dog's breakfast version of Jujitsu wasn?t as great as he thought it was. His students could not defeat the Jujitsu students in any of the competitions they engaged in. Kano knew it was time for a change, and he chose to add some more skills to his form of Judo ? joint locking techniques, choking techniques and holds. One of Kano?s students eventually moved to the beautiful country of Brazil and brought his unique form of Jujitsu and Judo to the country with him. From there, the martial arts of Jujitsu and Judo spread throughout the world.

Combat Jujitsu takes the original Jujitsu and creates a martial arts that has a lot more combat involved, especially self-defense moves. Learning self-defense in any form of martial art is a great benefit. It can even save your life. It will give you the confidence you need to know that you can protect yourself and those around you. You do not need to be scared anymore. You will learn how to watch out for situations you need to get away from, how to escape an attacker trying to hurt you, feel more confident and self-reliant when you go out. Also, you can have a lot of fun learning combat Jujitsu while you are becoming a healthier person overall.

Practicing combat Jujitsu on a regular basis will help you in self-defense and meditation. You will also reduce your risks for many debilitating diseases. In an age of fast food, fast cars, no sleep, 500 channels and road rage, learning this martial art will have countless benefits!

When it comes to learning the ancient art of taijiquan, many people are doing things the wrong way. It is easy to get things the wrong way, for this world wants to push at us until we push back. This sets a standard which this article will attempt to rectify.

The first lesson to be learned, when one begins instruction in an internal art like Tai Chi Chuan, is to be empty. This doesn't mean to let your body go limp, but rather to be relaxed. If one is relaxed, then one is forsaking the muscular system, and this will leave space for an appreciation of their energy system.

Don't manifest energy, as in using your muscles, rather, learn to forsake muscular contraction and accept the sensations of the world. If one is manifesting, if one is putting energy forth, then sensation coming in is unable to get through the energy going out. If one is walking around all day and manifesting energy, also called chi power, then at the very least perceptions will be slanted and out of true.

As the body ceases to push forth energy, the student will begin to grow an appreciation for the space of his body. This is an actual 'universe' wherein the student ceases to use his physical perceptions and instead uses awareness to see all the nooks and crannies, the never ending space, inside his body. Successful in this, the student will become aware that there is energy in the he has to do is relax and let his chi grow.

It can be frustrating when one first starts doing this, the energy evolving in the body will evade the student's attempts to grow it. The student will have to come to the realization that the harder he tries, the harder it is to make chi. And, he will come to an understanding that the less physical energy he uses, the more chi power he will have.

When it first manifests, the energy will be like a huge wave, like water sloshing back and forth in a hot tub. The real reason for the form, and for the body, will become easy to see. The body makes energy, it is like a big old battery, and the form is a method for making that battery work.

With attention to detail, raw energy will become refined chi energy, able to be put into technique as necessary, and the student will become a superior martial artist. The student will see that such things as kung fu forms are a way to discipline oneself mentally to flow the chi power as he desires. At this stage in the martial artists development, the flood gates are wide open, and the student will move on to ever greater experiences.

To conclude, there are several steps from beginner to advanced Tai Chi Chuan. If one can relax and let the body evolve into emptiness, tai chi chuan instruction becomes a catalyst to transform a human being into a highly evolved spiritual being.

MMA [Brief History] Hidden Cost of MMA - YouTube MMA LIFE SHOP

The main reason most people drop out of the martial arts -- besides life taking them in different directions -- is because they didn't take the time to do any research and found out later the studio they joined wasn't what they expected.

The time you invest researching studios will pay you back a thousand fold. It will also help you find the right studio for you. You'll be more enthusiastic about your training and you'll get more out of it.

Here are eight consumer tips to help you make a more informed decision before starting at any martial arts studio:

1. Belt Rank Isn't Everything. Just because an instructor is a high ranking black belt doesn't automatically mean they're a good instructor. What's important is if they can help you reach your goals and teach you what you want to learn.

2. Size of Studio. Quality of instruction can vary from studio to studio no matter its size or what they teach. A larger studio may have more convenient hours, but may not offer you the personalized instruction you're looking for that a smaller studio may provide.

3. Watch a Class. Don't overlook this step. This will tell you more about the studio than anything - especially when you show up unannounced. Most public studios welcome walk-ins.

4. Visit Several Studios. Just because a studio is close, doesn't make it the best place for you train. Wouldn't you rather train at a place Five or ten minutes further away if it better matched your needs? Visit at least three places before deciding just to be sure.

5. Talk to Students. Students will tell all. They will tell you what to expect and why they decided to train there. This may help you make a better, more informed appraisal of the studio and its instructors.

6. Read the Fine Print. Not all studios require a contract, but if they do, pay particular attention to the terms of any contract and make sure you fully understand your rights before signing on the dotted line.

7. Ask Questions. Don't be worried that you will offend the instructor because you look for clarification. If an instructor or studio owner doesn't answer your questions to your satisfaction, then maybe you should move on to the next studio.

8. Try Before You Buy. If the studio you're interested in offers a trial program, it is recommended you take it. This will tell you a lot about how you will be taught and what you can expect from the studio.

MMA Conor McGregor vs. Nate Diaz 2: Notorious Unretires, Says UFC 200 Back On | Bleacher Report MMA LIFE SHOP

Martial Boxing is about self-defense and drilling in methods of punching and hitting that are pretty straightforward. There are a lot of different martial arts styles that are great to learn, but unless you are a really well-trained fighter in one of these, it's unlikely you'll remember the more complicated techniques in an emergency situation.

Many people suggest that this is the better art for self defense for this reason - as the training concentrates on basic moves rather than move complicated ones, and a solid grounding in basic self defense boxing, well-drilled in so that it's automatic is most often what will serve you best.

Just think about this - if you're in a position where you need to fight to defend yourself or others, are you really interested in grappling with them, or fighting a round with someone larger than you? Probably not. What you want to do is disable them enough to let you get away, or prevent them from hurting you. So being able to throw the punches that will do this fast is what you need: how to target weak spots like the throat, how to explode into action when you need to: all these survival boxing techniques.

Martial Boxing and the Boxing Martial Arts

As the name suggests, Martial Boxing is boxing that incorporates additional moves and techniques from the martial arts. The Boxing Martial Arts include Martial Boxing, as well as Kickboxing, Muay Thai ( Thai Boxing ) and other disciplines that incorporate boxing into Martial Arts training. But as mentioned, Martial Boxing isn't concerned with adding powerful kicks as in Kickboxing, grappling or throwing moves etc. It's focus is simple survival/combat fighting.

Combat?

Fighting in a ring with rules isn't usually regarded as combat. Combat is where the opponent will use anything and everything at his disposal to get you. Martial boxing is sometimes referred to or associated with Combat Boxing, as while it's fist striking that's concentrated on, the other martial arts elements that are added to the style provide a lot more ability to defend yourself in a situation where there are no rules.

The first version of Martial Boxing was a martial art that embraces all forms of fighting arts from a self-defense viewpoint. As you wouldn't really be able to master all of them ( a "jack of-all-arts kind of thing ) it seems to have refined itself as described earlier.

Another earlier version was aimed at ending a fight within 10 seconds in the fastest and most deadly way. That's probably more SAS material, and most martial arts have these techniques to end things in a nasty way but I prefer not to focus on them. If you can defend yourself and others and stay safe, that's the main thing you want.

Krav Maga is a modern self-defence system that employs aggressive hand-to-hand combat skills and other street fighting techniques to defend oneself from violent assaults. The system uses a practical approach to defence, using the natural and instinctive response of people to a threatening situation. The word is Hebrew meaning combat/battle contact, literally, while a more meaningful translation is 'close combat/ battle'.

Krav Maga is believed to have existed since 1930s. Imi Lichtenfeld is credited with the creation of this self-defence form during the 1930s. After his immigration to Israel in the late 1940s, he began to teach this defence form there and eventually created more refined techniques, which became popular as Krav Maga.

Krav Maga methodology focuses on neutralization of threat with simultaneous defensive and offensive movements and tactics, reinforced by an aggressive endurance approach representing 'dominance of only one'. Techniques are developed to tackle real-life situations where failure to respond can translate to death. The techniques focus on quick and frequent moves aimed at the opponent's highly vulnerable body parts to cripple him.

Krav Maga deals with situations of the real world. So, trainees are prepared to tackle attacks from all or any direction(s) by one or more attackers, in any place, including open or closed spaces, water, and in any posture ? sitting, standing, moving, or flat on the back or abdomen or any such sedentary posture.

Though Krav Maga is structured, there are no specific formalities as uniforms, bowing or other rituals, found in other forms of martial arts. There is also no difference in training for men and women. Krav Maga also allows usage of any available weapon for safety.

As with any other self-defence system, a good instructor is of paramount importance in KM too. Since techniques and tactics involved are complex, a qualified instructor with experience is essential to effective training. Krav Maga Ireland is a renowned training center that has been imparting authentic Krav Maga to over 8000 individuals, including members of the Irish Army Ranger Wing, for the last 8 years. Patrick Cumiskey, the Chief Instructor, is highly qualified and a man of multiple accomplishments. Know more about Krav Maga Ireland.

Though some KM techniques are extracts of traditional martial arts, they have been refined to suit Krav Maga philosophy of dealing with real-life situations. Despite its violent facet, KM is a proven self-defence system, essential in the prevailing sensitive world situation.

MMA 5 WWE Wrestlers Who COMPETED In MMA - YouTube MMA LIFE SHOP

Mixed Martial Arts is a combination of many martial disciplines, all of which offer specific benefits. Due to the relatively new nature of MMA, a lot of fighters weren't brought up cross training. This makes MMA, which is still in its infancy, a clash of styles as much as it is a clash of fighters. For this reason, it's often beneficial to have a strong base style in which the fighter has trained from a young age. There are several popular ones, including wrestling, boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Karate, and Tae Kwon Do. Wrestling is the most dominant of these for reasons that will be outlined below.

Wrestling bequeaths certain benefits that the other styles don't; granted, the other styles also give benefits that wrestling doesn't, but the ability to quickly adopt techniques in other disciplines is one of wrestling's strengths. The main advantage that wrestling gives the fighter is the ability to dictate where the fight goes. Very few fighers are able to take an opponent to the ground as easily as a wrestler can. Since wrestlers have the best takedown offense and defense in MMA, they can effectively neutralize their opponent's strengths by utilizing their own. An example of this is a wrestler who refuses to take down or be taken down by a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitoner. He forces the submission grappler to strike, effectively eliminating his greatest weapon.

Being able to choose where the fight goes might seem to be a useless ability if wrestler has no other skills. If his boxing is terrible, won't he risk getting beat up by the BJJ guy with equally bad boxing? While anything can happen in an MMA fight, wrestlers are generally more well-prepared than other fighters. This is due to their fantastic strength and conditioning, a discipline that they learn from an early age and practice throughout their amateur wrestling career. Pound for pound, wrestlers are the strongest and most well-conditioned athletes in the sport. This gives them a significant advantage in picking up new techniques and just being all-around better than their opponent. Their great conditioning increases their punching power, ability to take a punch, and their ability to power out of submissions. With a fair amount of cross training, good wrestlers can crush even seasoned BJJ fighters on the ground.

On top of the obvious benefits, wrestling also makes it easier to learn other styles. One of the most important aspects of wrestling is having good balance, which is something that helps the fighters pick up boxing and kick boxing. While strong wrestlers aren't often the best strikers in their division, the risk of a takedown, their strength, and their strong chins often allows them to dominate better strikers even in the stand up.

While wrestling is the best base for mixed martial arts, success in the sport still has a lot to do with the individual. Take Georges St. Pierre and Lyoto Machida, for example. They both come from karate, which is one of the least-used base styles. While GSP has essentially become a wrestler, Lyoto still sticks to his guns and puts on impressive performance after impressive performance. When looking at all of the champions in the UFC, you'll find that only two are dominated by wrestlers: welterweight with GSP and heavyweight with Brock Lesnar. With that in mind, there are a disproportionate amount of wrestlers in the top 10 of any given division.
