MMA Bellator 149 results: Gracie vs. Shamrock - MMA Fighting MMA LIFE SHOP

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a form of self defense which emphasizes that a person's strength and size doesn't affect their ability to defend themselves from a stronger attacker.

When you get there on the first day, you'll probably feel a little nervous but there's nothing to worry about. People in the jiu-jitsu community are generally friendly and it'll be a fun, learning experience that you could use later in life. Don't quit until you've given it a shot! The important thing that you have to remember is that everyone gets nervous especially the first few matches you're in. Keep in mind you'll learn all the techniques and have a much better sense of ease next time practice or a tourney comes around.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the perfect sport for anyone who wants to learn self defense and it's also an excellent way to build self-esteem because it teaches you that you're able to stand up to anyone and be successful. No one can bring you down no matter how tough they may look, how tall they are, no one can stop you from becoming the person you want to be!

Figuring out what you should bring for your first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class is fairly easy. All you need to bring is yourself, some water and then be ready to learn! Knowing what to wear on the first day of class might be worrisome for some people unless you've already been given a gi or what is known as a uniform or kimono to wear. If not, throw on a simple T-shirt with some sweat pants or a pair of shorts that'll allow you to move easily. In most classes, you'll be required to purchase the gi yourself but your instructor will give you specific instructions when you arrive on your first day.

Protective gear may also be worn depending on what you feel is necessary such as mouth guards, knee braces or a cup but it's all up to you and what makes you feel comfortable.

Girls, make sure you've got your hair tied back and take any piercings that you have out because that can result in injury if they're yanked on.

Everyone will be lined up probably at the beginning of the class and then you'll start with some light warming up to get your blood pumping. The purpose of warming up for any athletic sport is to reduce any chance of injury and you're able to move more freely when your body is relaxed. The warm-ups will usually include push-ups, running laps and other drills that will be taught to you once you've gotten started. If you're having trouble figuring out how to do a specific drill, your instructor will be there to help you, don't forget that you're there to learn!

After your warm ups are completed, you'll be partnered up with another class member to begin your first lesson and each new class you'll continue to learn something new. It'll get more difficult and it takes time and patience but you'll be able to do it, hang in there!

Hopefully this brief article calmed at least a few of your fears. It really is no big deal. You might be thinking about walking into a gym where there might be mma fighters, or who will watching. Don't worry about it! They aren't watching you, they're probably watching the black belt demolish somebody. Why would they be watching the new white belt almost pass out from exhaustion?

Conor McGregor Eddie Alvarez believes 'there's a simple way to win against' Conor McGregor - MMA Fighting MMA LIFE SHOP

Reality-Based Fighters need not be trained to perfectly execute a technique equally on either side of their body. This is a subject that rarely comes up or is even discussed. The reason for this is that there is a difference between a "martial art" and a "martial science" - and that effectiveness of a technique is much more important to your survival than perfected execution of that technique.

What Is Bi-Lateral Fighting Perfection?

This is a concept that you see very prevalent in your Traditional Martial Arts training much more so than in Reality Based Scenario schools. To be bi-laterally perfect in the execution of a fighting technique means that you can do, for example, a round house kick with the exact same skill, flexibility, height and speed on your left side as you can on your right side. If you have a five-step sequence of a self defense move which involves you right hand, you must strive to be able to do it equally as well with your left hand.

Reality-Based Fighters Train for Efficiency Not Necessarily for Bi-Lateral Perfection and Execution of a Technique

When a RBF learns an offensive or defensive move, it will oftentimes involve the dominant use and/or practice of one side of his or her body. For example, if you were learning, performing and practicing the jab-to-the-eye gouge, you would probably learn it and practice it efficiently to execute only with your right hand as a preemptive first-strike.

RBF Practitioners CAN Fight on Either Side, But Usually Will PREFER To Execute A Technique On One Side of Their Body Over The Other

The distinction that must be made here is the idea that the RBF person may choose to attack and fight from a dominant side of his body over the other, but this does not preclude the fact that he could at any given moment, if he had to, fight just as effectively from either side.

The RBF practitioner is interested in what works best to get the job done of surviving a threat. It is not about looking pretty, and it is not about the picture-perfect execution of any technique. This essentially is the different mindset of studying a martial science (reality-based fighting) versus a martial art (karate, taekwondo, kung fu, etc.).

MMA Gun Control and Self Defense MMA LIFE SHOP

In days following the election of President Barack Obama many Americans reacted to the change in leadership by running to their local gun shop where they set new records for firearms and ammunition sales in the United States. Now the new president's voting record on the issue of gun control might be cause for alarm, but so far he's dealing with issues like nation healthcare, the environment, and foreign policy. In this article I won't take a stand on whether or not you should own a gun, which is up to you as an individual, but rather what role firearms play in self defense.

More often than not people think that because the have a gun they're safe, but that couldn't be further from the truth, because unless you train regularly with your weapon it can actually be a liability. Also remember targets don't shoot back, so you had better be ready for a gun fight not just target practice. Many times criminals will run away if they encounter an armed victim, but you have to be ready for those who won't go so quietly. Firearms ownership might be a right in the United States, but it is also a privilege, and if you carry one you need to be ready.

Perhaps you're one of the many responsible gun owners out there, and you know what to do if some bad guys invade your free space. Many of you argue that you need your guns to protect yourself until police arrive, and you'd be right, but what do until you can get to your gun? Your gun might only be only a few feet away in a secure location, but until it is your hand it isn't part of yourself defense solution. You can't solely rely on your gun to keep you safe, but you can make it part of your overall self defense training.

If you haven't prepared yourself for hand to hand combat you're not really prepared for close combat, so if you want to be ready to protect yourself you need to ready for an up close down and dirty street fight where there are no rules and the winner is the person who doesn't die. You might carry a gun that can take down a stampeding buffalo, but if someone gets in your face or catches you by surprise you might not get the chance to use it. Now if you take the time to learn a few simply self defense techniques you can fight off an attacker and give yourself some room to escape or pull your weapon and do what you need to do.

In the film Enter the Dragon martial arts legend Bruce Lee said, "any damn fool can pull a trigger," and you're much smarter than that, so be ready for a real fight. If you just rely on a weapon you have already lost the fight, but if you know multiple ways to defend yourself you will be ready for whatever happens. If a criminal tries to disarm you'll be ready, and if your weapons are locked in a safe you will be able to fight off an attacker until you can get to them while your family runs to safety. Firearms play an important role in self defense, but they aren't your only tool.

MMA Fightweets: Are you feeling Conor McGregor's next fight, yet? - MMA Fighting MMA LIFE SHOP

In a perfect planet, we would all go through life without ever having to face the possibility of a physical altercation. And in some cases this does happen. Some people go their entire lives without ever fighting with anyone. But unfortunately in this day and age, there may be a need for you to have to defend yourself. In other words, trouble may find you and you may find yourself with no other options than to confront your attacker.

If this is the case, here are some hard rules to follow that can save you in a fight. I'll go over a few of the most common scenarios. Remember your objective isn't to "win", it's to get out of the situation alive and unharmed if possible.

1.) Always Keep a Cool Head - Try to stay calm and do not panic. Panicking usually just makes the attacker angrier than they already are. If you stay calm you will have more time to think about how you are going to react to the situation as it unfolds.

2.) Defense Against Headlocks - If you find yourself accosted from behind and placed in a headlock, tilt your neck to the side of their elbow fold then tuck your chin in. This will make it impossible for your attacker to choke you. Then, completely relax and fall to the ground. This way your attacker will be forced to hold you up by your own body weight which is nearly next to impossible. This will force them to let you go. Then if possible try to make a run for it if they aren't armed with a pistol.

3.) Grabbed From Behind - If someone grabs you from behind using a Bear Hug, the best thing to do is to head butt them from behind. If you attempt to step on their heel or kick them in the groin, it will probably just infuriate your attacker. But the human skull is amazingly powerful. Just 2 good head butts from a lady, in other words, back of your head hitting their nose, is the equivalent of getting hit 4-6 times by a man. Once again, if this frees you make a run for it.

4.) Keep a Weapon Handy - If you work in an office, a pen or pencil make a great weapon. As a general rule, use sharp objects to go after soft tissue, like an eyes, throat or belly for example. Anything solid and hard you have with you, like a can should be aimed at the bone.

5.) Move Side To Side - A moving target is a lot harder to hit. Try to stay as versatile as possible for as long as you can.

6.) Leave Forensic Evidence - If the worst happens and you find yourself in a situation that you feel is hopeless, dig in with everything you have. Wipe his blood on your clothes. These days forensics are so advanced. Leave a deep bite mark, if you can try to bite any major vein and don't let go.

Nails - Also use your nails and scratch your attacker. I mean a nice long deep scratch. After the attack and if you are able, immediately call the police and do not take a shower. Let them get the DNA from your finger nails. If your attacker has a criminal history, they might be able to find him in the criminal databases and identify them just from this information.

Throughout the entire process keep calm and focus 100% of your energy on disabling your attacker and use your head. Never fight out of emotion. You want to do everything in your power to get through this situation and get back to your family as well as collecting Forensic Evidence so you can also bring your attacker to justice.

Taekwondo also known as TaeKwonDo, is a Korean martial arts style that has been around for over 2000 years. TaeKwonDo incorporates the use of blocks, punches, sweeps and kicks. The word Taekwondo comes from a combination of three different Korean words:

Tae, means to kick with your feet

Kwon, means to punch or strike with your fist

Do, means a way or method.

You put it all together and it basically means "The way of the hands and feet". Pretty cool right? TaeKwonDo has six levels or six colors of belts that you can accomplish. You have white, yellow, green, blue, red and black. Each belt represents the progress a student has made. For example, the white belt means that there is an absence of knowledge. It shows that you are a beginner and trying to learn. As you get better you will move on to the yellow belt which means you are learning and starting to take hold of the art.

Next level is the green belt, this shows that you are getting more advanced. Next we have the blue belt. The blue belt represents the sky and it shows that you are moving up and reaching higher goals. Next, you move on to the red belt. The red belt means you know your stuff. Its a color of danger. It shows others the level of skill and knowledge you have acquired.

And the final level is the black belt. You must be at least 16 years old in order to receive your black belt. If you are not, you will receive what is known as a poon. A poon is a belt that is half red and half black. Once you turn 16, you will receive your official black belt.

MMA Easy to Learn Self Defense Methods MMA LIFE SHOP

Providing safety and protection for the family is not an easy task especially now that there are so many ways wherein criminals can instantly steal something away from you. If only surveillance cameras are installed everywhere, the incidence of crimes and other forms of violence will probably be lessened. Not only that, gone will be the fear that every individual is carrying as he steps outside his home.

So many days and years have passed and still the government is having difficulty from surpassing any problems concerning the welfare of the society. As you can all see, many individuals are trapped inside their own homes afraid to come out because they might become the next victims of criminals. This is reality and we should all bravely face it. If we will not act and teach ourselves with the right self defense skills, we will be depriving ourselves from enjoying what is in store for us in this world.

Everything begins at our home. The important values and lessons are learned in our own homes. It is a must that parents focus on how to teach their children with discipline, respect for elders, and the different self defense methods. They will all carry what they have learned at home when they are already exposed to the society. If you are a responsible parent who is very concerned with the children's future, then better start doing your roles and instruct the little ones with moral values and train them to become good warriors.

There are ways wherein you can keep your home protected at all times. The single most important and powerful self defense is your cognitive thinking, in general, your brain. If you begin to panic, you lose focus and concentration disabling you to defend yourself and your family. However, if you use your head and think of ways on how you could escape from the hands of criminals attacking your home, you will definitely succeed.

One very effective self defense that you can apply once your home is under attack or is invaded by criminals is through learning any forms of Martial Arts. Even you cannot spare some time from visiting a certain martial arts school, you can buy DVD's or instructional videos that way you can just watch them and train yourself at the comfort of your own home.

Other self defense that you can use and learn to use is the self defense weapons like the taser, stun gun and pepper spray. They can easily be learned since these types of devices are user friendly. Keeping a self defense weapon at home ensures you and your family to be safe and protected.

All the more, learning martial arts or perhaps with the use of self defense becomes useless if you do not use your initiative and think of probable ways wherein you can manage to escape. Saying it and doing it are different. So when you assure your family of a safe stay at home, better start practicing on how to focus and concentrate when faced in a life threatening situation. It is better to have tried rather than not doing anything to even defend yourself and your family.

Get a Physical

First thing you need to do is make sure you a cleared as physically able to compete. In order to get licensed for a particular state, you will need to meet certain guidelines. If a medical condition is found that would keep you from getting licensed, this gives you a chance to seek treatment in order to correct the condition before applying for a license.

Have a Definite Goal

Before you even get started, you should set a goal and make a basic plan on how to achieve that goal. Do you plan on making fighting your career or are you just looking to see train and see where that takes you? Consider whether or not you want to take some amateur fights first. A fighter with a successful amateur career will likely have an easier go at getting first professional fight with a legitimate promoter. Remember, a loss as an amateur can be easily overcome, but a loss as a professional will be on your record forever. Consider amateur fights against amateurs with different skill sets. Wrestlers, strikers, and Jiu-jitsu practitioners will test how rounded out your skill are and possibly expose any weaknesses.

Training

It would probably be wise to seek out a manager/trainer to oversee your preparations for fighting. A top-notch gym will likely have someone available to oversee your training. If you can't afford gym fees, some gyms will allow you to train for free if you represent the gym at competitions. If you can show a gym you are an asset and can represent them in a professional manner, they might consider it. Also, try to find a gym where you can train in all the basic skills (wrestling, striking, Jiu-jitsu).

If possible, you should be training 4-5 days a week with a bare minimum of 3 days a week and at least 2 hours a day. The quantity isn't as important as the quality of the workout. When training for a scheduled fight, you might consider two-a-days. You definitely want to make sure your cardio is top notch. You might have all the skill in the world but if you gas after the first couple of minutes, you'll be a sitting duck for a better-conditioned fighter.

Weight training can be beneficial but having too much muscle can cause you to gas early if your body can't provide the oxygen for all that mass. The strength you gain can be an invaluable asset in explosiveness in the cage but it must me balanced with the other parts of your training. This one of the areas where you trainer can give you good advise about how much you should work with weights.

Of course, you'll have to avoid over-training. Your body needs sufficient rest especially if doing intensive training. It might be a good idea to consider doing something low-intensity on off days like Tai Chi or Yoga. These can help with your flexibility and balance, which are both extremely important in MMA.

Make sure you have a proper diet. Cutting weight can be brutal especially for an inexperienced fighter. Compare your height and weight to other successful fighters. Are you able to move quickly or are you slow and bulky? If you need to gain weight, make sure you're gaining by adding muscle not fat.

Never Stop Learning

Increase your knowledge about the sport whenever possible. Many big name MMA fighters and accomplished martial artists give seminars on various aspects of MMA. The price of these seminars is usually reasonable so if you can afford it, you should attend as many of them as possible. The insight from someone who's "been there and done that" can be invaluable.

Listen to Your Manger/Trainer

When the time comes, your manager or trainer should be able to help you decide if you're ready mentally and physically to take your first pro fight. If you are totally prepared, hopefully you'll get the win you're looking for.

MMA Finding the Best Martial Arts Venues Offers MMA LIFE SHOP

It can appear quite challenging - the task of finding good martial arts venues offers quickly for an event that is expected to be held soon. But that is only when you believe that you have to be doing the running about and putting things in place. How about a solution that takes care of all the perceived hassles and botheration of holding such events and is a very professional one?

Well, you will get exactly that when you contact one of the more experienced and reputed holiday home operators in the UK and discuss with them your idea of holding this martial arts event. Typically you would associate a holiday home operator only with the holidaying and vacationing aspects and would not think that they would have a business model that is suitably diversified to include event management as well.

That is where we often presuppose and prejudge things and fail to come up with out of the box solutions to our problems. Holiday home operators have a business model that makes best use of their infrastructure all through the year. Remember that they have spent a lot of money developing the land, made it fit for habitation and put up all kinds of entertainment and leisure infrastructure to ensure that they get a good return on it.

Putting up well furnished caravan homes and having venues within the park that has all the modern audio and video equipments in perfect working condition calls for some big money investments and it is natural that they would want to get the best yield on this investment.

Now since holidaying has its own seasonal variations and they may not be able to always utilise all the facilities through the year to cater to vacationers, these operators have diversified their business model such that they are able to make good use of their venues and event management expertise. They do this by offering events accommodation offers to all those who are interested in holding such events like dance competitions, music shows, martial arts competitions, hobbies, special groups events, theme parties and so on.

So how are they able to do this and how do you benefit as somebody wanting to hold such events?

As mentioned above, if you are looking for good martial arts venues offers, all you need to do is contact one of these operators. They will act as the consultant for this event and be with you through the whole process - right from conceptualising the event, the manner in which it should be presented, the entertainment, accommodation and meal arrangements as well amongst many others. They will also provide you with all the administrative support that is required and you would therefore never feel lost or unsure about what to do.

In doing so they are able to make the optimum use of their venues that can accommodate more than a 1000 people at a time. This is how they are able to extend competitive martial arts venues offers and other such offers to interested parties.

MMA Dada 5000 suffers major medical scare after loss to Kimbo Slice - MMA Fighting MMA LIFE SHOP

Are you a type A, go getter, do ten things at once type of person?

Do you get bored easily with the same old-same old?

Want to know the best way to combat that boredom and bring your health and fitness to a new level?

I spent years trying different healthy workouts beginning with aerobics.

It began in college during the Jane Fonda years when I followed the lead of the girls in my sorority. We put a video tape in the VCR, moved the coffee table out of the way and proceeded to jump, bump and squeeze our way into shape.

This was followed, post-college, by aerobics classes at the gym where I wore cute little leotards and colored tights. I could admire myself in the mirrored wall while following the movements of an enthusiastic instructor. And if I was lucky I?d meet a nice guy in the weight lifting area and, well, that?s another topic.

Marriage brought children. After my first child, via an unexpected, painful, emergency C-section, I bought a step. Once again, I found myself, moving the coffee table out of the way, putting the video tape in the VCR and climbing my way to fitness. It took about a year after my son?s birth to get back into my pre-baby clothes (plus 7 pounds).

Baby number two, via a less painful moderately expected C-section, I bought a slide. The slide was kind of fun. You put little nylon booties over your sneakers and slid back and forth following the video tape in the VCR. What followed was another year to fit into pre-baby clothes (plus 4 pounds).

Somewhere along the way, I took up running as the main stay of my healthy workouts. Oprah was running marathons which meant anybody could do it. I set my alarm for 5:15 AM Monday through Friday and braved the weather to run 2 ? miles through my neighborhood before my husband had to leave for work. By 6:30 AM he was gone and I was home with my two sons for the day, feeling healthy, workout complete.

Baby number three, another son via a very uneventful, planned and surprisingly painless C-section, I added biking to my morning routine. Now I had variety! I could run the same route every morning. I could bike a different but longer route every morning. Or there was always the stack of video tapes if I felt like moving the coffee table.

Boy was this living!

It took another a year to get back into my pre-baby clothes with zero pounds added.

Fast forward three years, morning workouts were still a habit and boring as hell. I didn?t even feel like I was exercising any more because the routines were all so familiar to me, the required effort level was dropping, lower and lower.

Does any of this sound familiar?

Let me give you the answer to what you?ve been seeking. It?s the real deal and I am proof positive that it works. I discovered the benefits of Martial Arts.

Martial arts training is a complete healthy workout in every sense of the word. Not only do you increase your physical fitness level in ways you never imagined, but you exercise your mind as well. There is, of course, the standard learning curve to starting something new. But in addition, martial arts training requires you to use your brain.

This kind of healthy workout is very similar to learning ballroom dancing. There are specific steps to be performed in a specific order at the right pace. You work to learn the proper martial arts techniques to build a solid foundation. You exercise your mind to remember what comes next while you work your body to new levels of fitness.

One of the best benefits to martial arts training is that it can be done as a family. It?s a great way to spend time with your children in a healthy, fun activity. You?ll never get bored because the workout changes every time you go to class. Increased flexibility, strength and confidence are a small sample of the benefits package.

Unlike those aerobics classes, when you get good at the routine, not only does it change, but you earn a belt that tells the world how hard you?ve worked and where you stand in the process.

For a goal oriented, boredom busting, healthy workout, you can?t beat martial arts.

The 1978 classic Kung Fu movie called Shaolin Temple is a tale about an Emperor who is murdered by a military general who wants to take his place as ruler. The cast includes Shu Feng, Lam Kwong Jung, Chia Ling, Mak Kong Lung, Cheun Yuen and Liu Ching.

The ambitious architect of the coup is a man named Chung Wei Li, the emperors minister of war. Because he found his place in government with the help of the queen, she falls into guilt and despair about her responsibility for his actions and she commits suicide. The princess, who is to be forced into marriage with her fathers usurper, also commits suicide in the tragic early scenes

The emperor himself uses his dying breaths to obtain a promise from his most trusted general (general Ho) to protect his son, and a promise from his son that he will avenge the crimes that have been committed.

The emperors son sets out for revenge, but whilst fighting he is hit by a poison dart that will kill him in 7 days, and General Ho sends him with 2 of his most trusted soldiers to get the cure for this poison from a monastery where it is being protected by a group of monks before dying himself.

After meeting up with the two daughters of General Ho the prince, who is suffering bouts of delirium from the poison, and his band of warrior fight many battles for revenge and to obtain the antidote.

There is loads of great weapons fighting action for the martial arts fans, and the generals daughters make good strong female characters who fight alongside and against the men with great skill.

If you love classic 1970's Kung Fu movies like me then you will love this one too, and general martial arts movie fans should enjoy it too. 7 out of 10 seems like a fair rating to me.

I always thought it would be fun to take up Karate. I remember being young and thinking how nice it would be to defend myself against my older brothers. Karate has many benefits for kids and the earlier you can get them started the better.

Learning a martial art form at a young age will allow your child to learn about important things that can be carried over into their everyday lives. Not only that, but it's something fun that you could do with your kid if you wanted to. It could be some good bonding time for the two of you. It may also be a healthy way to take out your aggression on one another. As long as you're being safe of course!

I mean come on, wouldn't you have wanted to learn about hard work and discipline at such a young age? Well, I don't know if we can all agree on that one but what about self esteem? I think it's important if kids can enhance their self esteem through a sport such as Karate. Most people struggle with self esteem issues and I feel this is something that will help them fight it later on in life.

Doing any martial art form is an excellent confident booster for a child because it eliminates their need to compare themselves to others. Karate in particular encourages kids to draw on their own strengths. It's an individual sport so it's about what you bring to the table and how you alone can defend yourself. It will also help improve your child's concentration for better work and study habits. Now I think that is something we would all want for our kid! Karate also aids in reducing stress.

You may think, my kid can't have stress, they are so young. The reality is that people any age can experience stress and Karate is one way to help deal with it.

If your kid tends to have a bundle of energy then this would be a great way to get some of it out!

MMA As WMMAA accepts Pro athletes, IMMAF becomes sole international body for Amateur MMA - IMMAF MMA LIFE SHOP

Mixed Martial Arts and here's 9 reasons why..

1. One and Only 1 Title

There's only one top dog in UFC. The sport doesn't simply hand a title over to a fighter since he occurred to make it to the fight that night. It takes effort, commitment and also an appreciative winning streak to grab the glory of true championship. Unlike the plentiful championship belts that wrap themselves around a handful of boxers, mixed martial arts - particularly, the UFC - just possesses one belt for each weight class.

2. All Year Round Action

Mixed martial arts has the UFC, which is the most significant promoter in the world. Between January and December, the UFC multitudes many parties, whether through pay-per-view, FOX, FX, FUEL TV or even Facebook. If they have the resources, why not use them? With eight various weight classes delivering countless entertaining fighters, the UFC has had the ability to supply its followers advantageous activity all year long. Now, while lots of people would say their attempts have been too much, just how can you badger the provider for showcasing its product? A lot of sports, possibly besides tennis as well as golf, cannot say that. Their timetables are limited. And to believe, these amounts are just from the UFC. Envision what some other MMA promoters can contribute to the formula.

3. No Ownership

The majority of sports managers, minus the few people in charge that really care about the sport, only care about generating income. That's all well and great considering it's their personal cash their putting on the line, it still eliminates from the sport's integrity. Whether it's the wellness of their players, the financial durability of their employees or the total well-being of their team, managers are commonly ducking as well as escaping morally vital obligations in favor of monetary success. Yet in mixed martial arts, where individual owners are as plentiful as non-fighters, it's every guy for himself. Sure, providers like the UFC run the world of MMA and are often mocked for not paying their fighters nearly enough, but the truth of the concern is that nobody is making these competitors do something they do not wish to. Each guy has his personal opportunity at reaping the benefits of sponsorship while putting in the amount of time as well as effort that they deem needed.

4. Transparency

Don't worry, because with no whining, no scandals, no cash mongers and no cereal box title belts. This sport is as determined as it can be. Aside from the periodic blips in the system like interim titles and prolonged suspensions, MMA has to be at least argued as the purest sport in the world. It regularly showcases its potential to surprise, satisfy and hunger its followers. The training, dedication, hard work and sacrifice that enters being a professional MMA boxer is past our comprehension. The rivalry can be seen as an intercontinental, my nation vs. yours all-out battle. Whether it's a heel kick to the face or an elbow off the octagon. It's a five-round, ground-and-pound fighting royal. It's fighting, the the most natural recreation recognized to man.

5. Levelheaded Deals

MMA deals are often quick. This gives the sport's numerous promotions the possibility to pay its fighters the cash they ought to get, or don't. For example, a lot of UFC agreements are built around a six-fight duration. This gives ownership the potential to regulate its assets and not have caught paying fighters scads of dollars after they're no longer able to execute. Unlike MMA, other recreations like softball, football and basketball are continually subjected to "secured" contracts. Lengthy deals that are commonly 8 or 10 years long make these sports laughable. Sportsmen aren't going to perform in their prime for a years long. It's common sense. I suspect MMA is the only recreation to recognize it has to protect its cash as well as take each deal step by step.

6. Competitive Salary

Overall, an MMA salary is extremely competitive. For MMA fighters, gaining a $ 10,000 paycheck could be the determining factor in paying their rent on time or not. They do not have room for mistake. Sure, the occasional PPV cash cow like Brock Lesnar will certainly enjoy more perks than the rest, but at the end of the day, MMA is among the most financially reasonable sports around. Additional entities like softball, football as well as basketball function insanely rich participants, some making millions and millions a year! They can't relax and ride an assured income in to the sundown. They are obliged to give 100% percent, ONE HUNDRED percent of the time, every minute they're inside the octagon. It's exactly what makes the sport much more hazardous, which in turn creates more enjoyment as well as interest for fans.

7. No Scandals

MMA doesn't tolerate rubbish. Fighting is fighting, as well as it begins and also keeps with that. The sport isn't constructed to function around corruption. The recreation does not appear to run into major scandals, due in part to MMA's stability wall being iron-clad. Boxers aren't throwing fights, managers aren't taking online video tapes of training camps, coaches aren't being caught seducing kids. Up until now in its quick existence, MMA has actually been as clean as a sport can be, minus failed testosterone tests. However nowadays, exactly what recreation does not have its complications with performance-enhancing?

8. Limited Injuries

Of course, the periodic injury bug strikes training camps and also places some of the greatest fighters on the shelf for a few months, however absolutely nothing close to the ACL tears and also Tommy Mark surgeries that comprise every various other sport. Despite being the bloodiest sport on the world, fighters are hardly ever seriously injured inside the cage. Whether it's getting removed off the football field after a helmet-to-helmet accident or cracking an ankle after moving into home plate, other sports are sometimes more unsafe compared to fighting. Clearly a few fighters possess the capacity to break bones, like Frank Mir as well as Ronda Rousey, but for one of the most components, matches are put to a halt before debilitating injuries are suffered.

9. Restricted Concussions

Having a better chance of getting struck by lightning than experiencing a concussion in the course of a battle, Mixed martial arts fighters are very surprisingly lucky in that sense. It simply doesn't happen that often. Decisive fights are 99.9 percent of the time stopped at the best second, with the occasional inexperienced referee slipping up for a brief few seconds. Unlike MMA, additional recreations appear to incorporate a whole lot of concussion-related instances-- others especially, the NFL as well as NHL. When your sport sees a participant get concussed at least once a week, it might be time to reposition some points about. For fighters, bruised chins as well as forehead lacerations are the biggest risks.

Ideal Posture

Possibly probably the most critical prerequisite to right breathing has definitely absolutely nothing making use of the respiratory program in any way. It truly is proper posture! MMA Emirati MMA athlete is a fighter in many respects | The National MMA LIFE SHOP

A concept would be rendered useless unless it has been given the opportunity to grow and take roots. A concept alone is but the beginning, how it is allowed to grow is the real story.

Thus, a spotless management is required for any concept to reach its full growth. Let's take Martial Arts Management as an example. Excelling in this field is one but teaching it to others is a different story. Being in control of your mind and body may seem easy compared to being in control of ten to fifteen students all at once. True, a teacher's personality is important but there are still several factors at hand. All these factors must be firmly held together to lead to a worthy marketing strategy.

What serves as the backbone of any form of management is business intelligence. Knowing the tricks of the trade first hand is a treasure that no Jack Sparrow can steal. With business intelligence, a strategic plan can easily be conceived. This is where the Martial Arts School Marketing would prove to be useful. If you know what you're doing, then what could come as harm in continuing?

One of the key elements in Martial Arts School Marketing is the quality of the mat. Does this mat feel comfortable to the student who wishes to learn the secrets of martial arts? Is it spotless so as not to be a distraction? The mat may seem to be unimportant, but the thing is, it is. In any dojo, the mat is the one thing that is in contact with the learners of the discipline. It is one of the key factors that attracts a student and keeps the martial arts business running. It may appear to be nothing to the human eye but in the mind's eye, it is everything.

The concept of the mat is only a small step into fully embracing the management of Martial Arts. My advice is, start with the little things for these are what are most likely be overlooked.

From marketing, the idea of gaining profits was born. It is highly unlikely for a businessman to overlook the importance of gaining from any investment. Dollars are spent on producing flyers and advertisements... this is the concept of Karate Marketing. A businessman would start looking for ways to entice students. One of the main downfalls of this technique is how the message is conveyed. The flyers may be too cluttered, advertisements too indirect.

Karate Marketing must be done in an orderly manner so as to relay the correct impression to the target market. If a Martial Arts School finds it their edge that they have excellent mats to ensure the best concentration, then the flyers and advertisements should say so in plain text; never in jargons.

With the foundations of Martial Arts School Management and Marketing in place as well as the Karate Marketing, any concept would definitely took roots and reach its full growth.

MMA A Winning Combination of Grappling Arts MMA LIFE SHOP

Most people know that these two martial arts share their roots as Brazilian Jiujitsu was developed directly out of Judo.

Although these two arts are very similar and have much in common, their biggest difference is on their area of focus and this is where training both arts becomes a huge advantage. Training both arts enlarges your focus and expertise in the different areas of takedowns and throws and the ground game and submissions.

While BJJ does focus part of it's training on throws and takedowns. Judo takes this aspect of grappling into clearer focus than BJJ. By developing the beginning standing aspect of grappling, the BJJ player will better his overall game and further develop his defense against being taken down or thrown.

Further benefits include improvement in his ability to score points through throws and takedowns as well as better control of the match.

As for Judo players, they do have a little more adapting to do because of the rules differences on the ground in Judo which do place a lot more limits than BJJ does.

But despite that the overall skills gained training in BJJ on the ground will improve a Judo players' ground game for the simple reason that more emphasis is placed on the ground game.

Personally. the two arts have helped me develop a deeper appreciation of both grappling and Mixed Martial Arts as well. Where I constantly and permanently seek to develop my skills further in both arts.

One of the points you need to be aware of going in though, is that Judo can be a tougher sport if for simply because BJJ can be fought using a positional strategy where you control the position and are given moments to relax and work slowly whereas Judo tends to be more fast paced with less chance to relax. This doesn't mean Judo athletes are tougher, all it means is that your style of BJJ might be more relaxed and that you should accept that Judo could be more fast paced and aggressive than what you're used to.

In the end, the completeness that they both offer my game, is worth taking some time off of either one to focus on specific aspects of the other.

If you have considered cross training in either to better your game, then following this approach will benefit your game greatly and I couldn't recommend it more.

Within a few short months you'll be seeing a difference in both styles and so will everyone you spar against.

There are many things you must do to stand out from the competition and get noticed by potential students. One of these is to have a Unique Selling Proposition - or USP. A USP is, as the name implies, something about you, your program or your martial arts school that is unique and helps you stand out from all the other schools in your area.

Ask yourself, "What makes my school different than any other school?" The answer should never be price. Studies show that less than 5% of consumers shop on price alone. So you have to find something else. If you don't have something then you have to create it.

There is a circus in Britain that offers a series of counseling sessions for people who avoid circuses due to coulrophobia - fear of clowns. This is a USP that they can use not only to bring people in to their circus but they can also charge for the counseling sessions.

Basically, we all teach the same core principles - both in technique and philosophy. So you have to find a way to stand out.

Research

The first thing you should do is research your competition - something you should be doing anyway as a martial arts business manager. Call each school in your area and ask a series of questions to learn about their program. You should tell them that you just moved to the area and that your children were in a program for 6 months prior to moving. This way you can ask questions that a beginner would not normally ask.

Think of the information calls you get for your martial arts school. They usually ask about price and class schedule. But you should ask everything you want to know about them such as:

Is there an initiation or association fee?

Do they have contracts?

What supplemental programs do they offer? (Weapons training, etc.)

Do they charge for testing and how much?

Do they require students to compete in tournaments?

What is the rank and certification of the chief instructor?

What makes them unique from other schools in the area?

These are good general information questions that can help you see what the competition is doing. The last one is important because you can see what they think makes them special.

Put it everywhere

Once you've created your own USP you need to put it into words that can be easily used over and over. Domino's pizza is a classic example of a USP that pushed them to the top of their market. It said, "We deliver fresh hot pizza in 30 minutes or less guaranteed or it's free."

You should put your USP everywhere. Use it in all of your martial arts school marketing. Put it in your brochures, on your web site, in your yellow pages ad, everything. You should also use it as one of the first things you say when you take an information call. As a top martial arts management school owner you must do everything you can to stand out from the competition and having a Unique Selling Proposition is just one more tool in that arsenal. Find or create yours and start using it today.

Owing to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu's fast development in attractiveness globally, most martial artists became familiar with some of the basic simple joint locks such as the kimura and the armbar. In this article we'll explore another set of impressive tactics accessible to a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu specialist: chokes.

Chokes are typically used as submission retains in numerous varieties of combat activity and therefore are supposed to force the opponent to submit by tapping out or a minimum of to result in the referee to intervene to finish the battle. In a true existence battle, these are a lot more successful than in sport levels of competition - utilized with skill, and with out a referee current, they're going to render an attacker unconscious in quite quick buy. That is why military forces and law enforcement have so fully adopted the ideas of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as their base hand-to-hand combat coaching program. In reality, choke techniques are so instantaneously successful and unsafe that they are usually prohibited from use even as compliance retains by numerous civilian law enforcement departments.

The most standard choke strategy in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the "Rear Naked Choke." This can be utilized when you are entirely behind and facing your opponent; 1 forearm is slipped round the front from the opponents neck, whilst your other arm grabs your own personal wrist to apply torque. Usually periods it's not at all lack of capability to get oxygen with the windpipe that disables your opponent, but the interruption of blood offer to the brain by way of among the carotid arteries. The carotid artery is maybe the single most crucial blood offer in the entire body, and unconsciousness can end result even soon after only a few seconds if this artery is completely pinched by the choke.

One more oft-used BJJ technique will be the "Guillotine Choke." This move is applied towards the neck in much the same method since the Rear Naked Choke, but during this scenario it is applied whilst face-to-face with your opponent. A favored time for you to assault using the Guillotine choke is when your opponent has ducked his head, either because he just slipped among your punches or perhaps due to the fact he's diving to your legs in an endeavor to consider you for the ground. The "Guillotine", named soon after the French beheading device, is shaped whenever you use your off-arm to utilize torque for the arm wrapped close to your opponent's head, practically as if you're about to remove it from his physique. The Guillotine choke has the extra benefit of often currently being utilized even though nevertheless on your own ft, so that you can drop your weight into it when the choke is secured for further force.

Attacking continuously may be enjoyable, but your opponent might have other tips in brain. In any event BJJ just isn't just all about offense, in reality virtually all your operate need to almost certainly be spent on defense. Possibly a lot more crucial than the fantastic attacks described over is understanding the best way to escape or defend your self against these attacks. Normally the most beneficial defense is prevention: keep your chin as close as you possibly can in your chest. Ways of escape from BJJ chokes exist, but they are instead advanced and greatest left towards the teaching of the specialist.

Conor McGregor Jose Aldo doesn’t regret anything in loss to Conor McGregor - MMA Fighting MMA LIFE SHOP

One of the easiest ways to spot a real aggressor is how he places his weight. The average person that starts conflict often is just angry with themselves and they just take this anger out on others.

BUT they don't really want to fight they rely on the other person backing down. This makes them feel big and they might carry that false victory in their mind till the next time. It allows them to fill their personal feeling of inadequacy for a short time - Makes them feel like somebody.

We've all met this character!

But this person doesn't really want to take it to a physical level. The easiest way to spot this have their weight on their back foot. Keeping their face as far away from you as they can...while engaging in the verbals.

Not committing to attack but just engaging in verbal sparring.

A seasoned thug will have is weight evenly placed or have more weight on his front foot.

So he's ready to strike effectively.

Look out for this.

When you work on your awareness and build up your senses for spotting this type of person you can mostly avoid this trouble maker.

Usually you'll get a feeling in your gut that something's not quite right.

When you get this feeling, listen to it, it's usually right.

And by walking with your shoulders back your displaying confidence, which puts most of these bullies off with their pre-selection phase.

UFC Here's what Conor McGregor's new UFC contract is reportedly worth per fight | JOE.co.uk MMA LIFE SHOP

Why would a nice person like you and I engage in fighting? Have you ever thought about that? Have you ever been asked that question?

If you know me, you would already know - and I want to be very clear - that my approach to the subject of self-protection is not that of the thug, or tournament fighter, who's looking for a justification for engaging in physical violence and doing it in the name of "self-defense." And, I assume that, if you're still reading these lessons, then you must be in alignment with my philosophy and that you are, indeed, a "nice person."

You're not looking for fights.

You're not looking to go out and hurt people. But...

You ARE looking for the knowledge and skills necessary for preventing a socially-deficient, sub-human, assailant from hurting or killing you or someone you care about.

Fair assumption? Great! (I trust that, if I'm wrong, you won't hang on much longer because I won't change my stance!) If you're waiting for me to teach you the skills for winning that trophy or that next MMA bout, you're going to be waiting a long, long, long time.

But, no matter how serious your intention is, there's something that I really want to talk about - something I want you to think about. And that is the fact that...

You Were Programmed to Be a Victim!

That's a bold statement, I know. And it's not very politically-correct either. But...

It's true.

From the earliest age, you and I were taught to do all of those things that, believe it or not, criminal attackers, and even those who deceive, manipulate, and attack out of an inability to control their anger, look for!

That's right, the very lessons that you learned to be an upstanding, conforming, productive and positive member of the social order - a.k.a a "nice person," are the same lessons that make you appear weak and an easy target for the right attacker. In other words...

Being a nice person can be your downfall!

Don't get me wrong. Being a good person is not a bad thing. Far from it. In fact, what the world needs now is more people - masters and leaders of their own lives - who are positive, powerful, and productive members of their communities. We need more people who know how to truly act like ladies and gentlemen.

But, what I am saying is that, along with all of the good traits we've learned and developed, we also learned things that could get us killed if we ever had to face a real world, violent attacker - things like:

Nice people don't hit

It's the job of the police of the government to protect you

Fighting never solved anything

It won't happen to people like you

If you're nice and respectful, no one will want to hurt you

Etc.

Then again, if you really believed these things, you wouldn't be reading self defense articles and looking for self defense techniques... would you?

Just keep in mind as you amass your new knowledge, that there are more than a few lessons and beliefs buried there, in your subconscious mind, that may get in the way of your being able to act and do what you need to against an actual self defense attack.

Conor McGregor Nate Diaz submits Conor McGregor in second round of UFC 196 main event | FOX Sports MMA LIFE SHOP

This phenomenon occurs in many martial arts classes, mostly in the western world. Think about the standard structure of a class. There is usually some introductory activity at the beginning to prepare the body for vigorous exercise: the warm up. Most instructors, in this part of the class, will get their students to do things like shuttle-runs, press-ups, sit-ups and so on, lot's of pure fitness activities, but no combative movements.

In fact, many instructors will consider these purely fitness activities to be essential to training and completely unavoidable. The reasoning being that in order to do martial arts, one must be physically fit, therefore fitness exercises are essential. This is not true.

It is completely possible to incorporate vigorous physical work into martial arts inspired drills, such as complex or challenging kicking routines. Often, such activities are more intense than the simpler, general sports ones. It just requires imagination in teaching.

All you have to do to increase the workload of combat movements is increase the physical strength, endurance or speed needed to perform them. This could involve designing lengthy or awkward combinations of movements to push to students to their limit. You can even derive warm-up routines from prepared sparring routines.

Now there's nothing intrinsically wrong with doing purely fitness exercises, however it's important to remember that your students are there because they want to learn martial arts. This does not necessarily mean that they want to do general fitness.

Nowadays sports lessons in schools are infamously off-putting, and physical activities outside of the education system are important in an increasingly sedentary society. Therefore the less you do to remind your students of general sports, the better it is for your student retention statistics.

There's also an element of purpose to martial arts specific exercises. Some people, when they do general fitness exercises, will gain no sense of purpose from it. They are doing fitness for the sake of being fit, which they don't see the point in, particularly as simply being fit requires never-ending regular effort. If you want an example of this, think why so many people join gyms and then give up shortly afterwards. They get bored with no sense of purpose to the activity. If fitness is merely a by-product of combat training, students get two things out of it: the fitness, but more importantly, the ability to do the moves. Martial arts specific exercises will generally reward students with increased flexibility and control as well as fitness.

Fitness is best left as a convenient side-effect of martial arts. If fitness is specifically taught, it seems like a requirement and is then tedious and eats away at motivation.

It's also somewhat of a waste of valuable time. Some instructors run their classes on the principle that in every lesson they should have a decent proportion dedicated to fitness. Given that most classes are one hour long once or twice a week, and considering fitness can be gained without specifically training in it, you're compromising the quality of the martial arts unnecessarily.

Do you want to learn martial arts? Probably yes. There are plenty of Martial Arts schools offers different kind of techniques and styles. And now, it also offered on video tutorials that can be viewed or bought by anyone. Just log to their website or any online stores and there you have it. It is really nice that to have this kind of technology which give you the convenience of learning at home. But, is learning at home could be worthy rather than learning on a gym?

Martial art teaches delicate knowledge either how to defend or attack your opponent. Most martial art schools test their skills trough a friendly sparring or on a competition. These skills should never to use to harm others. Basically, martial arts even though it is an individual sports still you need some partner to test the skills you have learn. If you are learning from a video tutorials you can't or either of you doesn't know both your limitation that could result to injuries or even worst. There are techniques which involve choking, breaking, and smashing that could be devastating if you don't know how to perform it at first. Even professionals or masters could have some injuries how much more for beginners.

Thought video tutorials are convenient and not prohibited but dangerous. A kung fu lessons London gyms don't just offer the martial art teachings but also companions. Companions are also factors of rapid improvement of your skills. Sharing of ideas and techniques could build your perfection of the art. Sometimes we need some criticism and ideas from others to learn. These are the advantages of learning in gyms.

There are some issues that martial art are involved. It is allegedly describe as one of the reasons of London riot last August and until now. Martial arts could be brutal but it is a discipline. It could be thought to anyone and learned by anyone. Frankly, Martial Arts have the Yin and the Yang which means it has balance. The one who controls the balance is the one who teach the art.

The one reason why we want to study martial arts is self defence and self defence classes in London doesn't offer this but also the discipline and fitness of body and mind. If you want to learn, learn it from the instructor not just on video where they will teach you the right way and the only way to learn martial arts. It wouldn't be a hustle if you could walked or travel for a distance to learn but it is also a form of mind exercise the determination to learn. In other way, martial art is not just learning in instant.

So you want to become a ninja?

Excellent choice.

The benefits of learning to become a ninja are endless. It's much more than learning a martial arts style. It's a lifestyle. And it's damn cool.

There are 3 ways you can learn how to become a ninja (with emphasis on modern day ninja lifestyle training).

1. Ninja Camps. Believe it or not there are ninja camps in existence. There locations are not disclosed and you usually need to be accepted to attend, but information on their specifics can be found on the internet. These are excellent choices for learning both ninja training and modern day ninja lifestyle. The hands on immersion approach is hard to beat. Some camps have very flexible schedules and time frames in which you can attend. For instance there's everything from weekend courses to 3 month long courses. Either way you will live at the camp for the duration of training.

2. Ninjitsu classes. These can be taken in a group/class atmosphere or one on one private training. These are not always the easiest to find, but be sure to check out local dojo's, as sometimes outside instructors will be brought in to teach speciality disciplines. You can also post on a bulletin board requesting to learn privately. The only downfall with classes is the focus is often heavy on tradition and the more modern day ninja lifestyle aspects are not as heavily focused on.

3. Ninja At-Home Study. This is definitely an option and an excellent one to start out with. Today with the internet we have the luxury of learning and training skills on our own. Since ninja training can be hard to find and camps or classes may be too expensive or inconvenient, learning from an online e-book or online classes can be a very effective way to pursue your training. The big advantage with online books and courses is that there is emphasis on the modern day ninja lifestyle. That is, they teach how you can become a legitimate modern day ninja, and you can learn this right from your own home.

Today, in my first article, I would like to take a brief look at the modern perspective of martial arts, its new sporty image and its level of practicality in a self defence situation.

During my time in training, I have come across many proponents of the belief that traditional martial arts are no longer suitable for use in self protection, as the techniques require too much training and do not allow for enough personal variation. That may be your opinion, but I feel this view has largely been built around the 'new' image of martial arts.

At this point, I think it is important to remember where these arts originated from - brutal warfare. The majority of martial arts were founded hundreds (if not thousands) of years ago, by warriors who were engaged in deadly conflicts. They had no interest in scoring points, impressing the judges or even building up a devoted fan base, these guys had to develop methods of rapidly eliminating their adversaries. These are the techniques that remain effective today, and so they should. Human anatomy has not changed, nor have the laws of physics!

You will find the majority of martial artists on one side of this imaginary 'line', or the other. Some are sport fighters, training for competitions rather than self defence. The others are more traditional, focusing on the highly effective self defence techniques found in their art. Much as I enjoy tournament fighting, I believe it has gone some way towards destroying the viability of traditional arts in self defence. The advent of padded gloves, padded feet guards, helmets and body armour has entirely changed how a fighter uses his arsenal of techniques. Kicks and punches have been adapted to accommodate the padding, and many traditional techniques almost entirely forgotten.

In a self defence situation there are no second or third places, no umpires, and most rules. What works in competition may well not work in the street (for example a multiple high kick combination), and what is most effective in the street probably goes far beyond the rules of the tournament.

That being said, I do believe that tournament fighting does have some positive aspects- it teaches good timing, distancing, control, flexibility, speed and also promotes general fitness. Once we have a firm understanding that there is a world of difference between what happens inside and outside the ring, then we are on fairly safe ground.

The critical principle in Wing Chun is that beneath stress, it is unattainable to visually recognize the speed and precise route of an attack, and then make a aware selection on the ideal way to react - granted the small sum of time you have ahead of the assault of your opponent lands on you. Martial arts video clip coaching will teach you the basics of Wing Chun this kind of that you can successfully master its approaches.

You will also find out how to count on your reflexes in purchase to determine your response in the event that the assaults of your opponent persist. Mixed martial arts education movies instruct the fundamentals of the Sticking Arms principle which trains you to reflexively react to drive, velocity and direction of an assault. This is primarily based on tactile information and facts which the human mind tends to procedure much a lot quicker than it does visual info.

Wing Chun is based on a established of 8 rules which form a system of aggressive self protection that will allow you to immediately adapt by yourself to your opponent's, dimensions, strength and combating type. One should not be discouraged if you do not quickly grasp the approach, as it usually requires decades to educate your shape to be in a position to reflexively abide by these concepts and have an understanding of how to apply them in specific circumstances.

The energy concepts also outline the progression you will make during your coaching:

?? From training and a whole lot of punching to learning how to be calm through combat and how to counter intuitively punch without pressure

?? A good deal of teaching in Chi Sao to be ready to yield to and exploit the power of your attacker

?? Energy instruction which raises your striking and punching electrical power.

Wing Chun combating principles consist of heading ahead or quickly advancing with the goal of creating get in touch with with the limbs. This way the Chi Sao reflexes are able to acquire above and you could strike to begin with. This counterintuitive reaction will typically shock your attacker, while shifting the combating into near distance in which the tactile reflexes will dominate around your visual reactions. If you are unable to strike or disable your opponent, but you can make contact with some aspect of their physique other than their confront or throat, you may possibly do so. For instance, so extended as you manage continual speak to with your opponent's arm, they will be not able to kick off an assault in opposition to you with no your knowledge.

Conor McGregor Report: Conor McGregor To Fight Nate Diaz At UFC 200 - Pundit Arena MMA LIFE SHOP

In a perfect world we would not need such mundane things as policemen. We would not need emergency rooms or EMTs. We would not need locks on our doors, alarm systems, and guard dogs. We would never have to put bars on our windows. We would not have to concern ourselves with murder, rape, armed robbery or aggravated assault.

This is not a perfect world. Fortunately I live in an area that is mostly peaceful with law-abiding citizens. However a few months ago a stranger came into my home at 1:20 a.m. I am generally a light sleeper and was woken by a noise at the front door. I immediately assumed my granddaughter, age 4 years, had woke up and not realized she was staying with grandma and grandpa and had gone out the front door to look for her mommy. As I came around the corner from my bedroom to my front door I encountered a stranger standing in my house. We exchanged pleasantries and I encouraged him to leave post haste, which he did. As he ran from the house and rounded the corner he literally jumped into a police cruiser as it rounded the corner. The young man was extremely intoxicated and did not know where he was. I was relieved that my granddaughter was still asleep down the hall and never knew of the incident. I figure that this was a premier time to test my martial skill. I won! In fact we both won! The young man left with all of his body parts in tact and I did not have to hit him. If I had heard noises at the front door without my granddaughter visiting I would have greeted the young man with my 9 mm XDm. Thank God for granddaughters!

I am proud of my accomplishments in the martial arts. Not necessarily the belts but I have never had to fight my way out of a situation. OK, I did use some jujutsu when I worked in Law Enforcement but only a couple of times and it was just for arrest control or putting someone into the drunk-tank. All of my fight related bumps and bruises came from training in the dojo. So considering that I have never seen the elephant, will I be able to perform adequately under the stress of an actual attack? I think so. I have experienced the adrenalin dump many times and was able to perform as trained. Once on a night parachute jump. I had a mid-air collision with another jumper and my chute collapsed. I honestly thought I was about to die. Fortunately my chute re-inflated high enough AGL (above ground level for all you NAPs (Non-Airborne Personnel)) that I ended up with a few severe internal injuries but nothing seriously broken. I attribute the positive outcome to my training both at jump school and in the martial arts that I was still able to get up, roll up my chute and put it into the kit bag, and walk about a hundred yards before I decided I needed medical attention.

I have used the martial arts several times since then to aid in my recovery and rehabilitation from physical injuries even though the government provided nothing. Please don't get me started on the Veteran's Administration; I have nothing good to say about them. However, the practice of traditional kata has been very helpful to me in regaining my physical fitness after an injury. Martial arts have also provided me with a mechanism to get me out of the doldrums and depression associated with being laid up from an injury.

The martial arts provide a multitude of benefits. For some martial arts are a great past time and a hobby. For others it is a great way to maintain physical fitness, to meet new friends and to develop confidence and self esteem. Still for others it is an avenue for competition. For some of us it is a method of training that accentuates our profession and gives us a back up to help ensure our survival.

No matter what your motivation is for training, train hard. Train with a purpose. Train with a goal. Train as if your life depends upon it because it may in more ways than self-defense or the ability to fight.

Unfortunately in a perfect world we would not have a need for martial arts and that would be a shame.

MMA Did Henderson get robbed at UFC 204? - MMA - Mixed Martial Arts Blog- ESPN MMA LIFE SHOP

Many people understand that in order to be successful in the martial arts and life then belief in yourself and especially in your abilities is critical.

There are a lot of people who get involved in the martial arts in order to build confidence, self-esteem and belief in themselves.

This article will give a deeper perspective in this process so that the reader can further understand and strengthen his belief in his abilities, which will in turn further develop his abilities and improve his skills at the same time.

Let's start off by examining what it means to believe in yourself. I personally have always seen this as a trap to be avoided. Believing in your self is delusional in that your self has no real basis in what you can do and how you can perform. Believing that you are good at something will not necessarily make you good at it. Focused practice on properly doing it is the only thing that will increase your abilities. Therefore believing in your abilities will make you better and help you to perform when needed. Your confidence should be based on your abilities and not your self.

This of course should only come from a realistic assessment of your abilities and knowing your strengths and weaknesses and focusing on overcoming your weaknesses.

Some people might simply see this as semantics but if you think about it carefully you'll realize that there is truth to this understanding of the difference between belief in your self and belief in your abilities.

With belief in yourself you are merely creating the illusion in your mind about what you can do. With belief in your abilities you are looking to be clear on what you can actually do, and if you are being honest with yourself then you are removing your ego from the equation and realistically assessing what you can do and what needs more focused attention and practice so you can eventually develop the skill in being able to do it well.

For a deeper understanding, let's say you believe you can defend yourself based on the fact that you have developed self confidence because you fight well in the ring and have been working on self defense skills for many years.

Do you think that this will give you a realistic perspective compared to if you learned what is necessary to realistically defend yourself and analyzed all your skills as well as developed a situational awareness needed for successfully defending yourself. And so you solidified your belief in your skills by testing them under pressure as much as realistically possible and developed a confidence in those skills as working in the necessary environment.

Which one of these two beliefs, one in yourself the other in your abilities, do you think is more grounded on what you can actually do as opposed to what you believe about your self?

Which do you think will make a difference in a self defense situation?

Conor McGregor Real Madrid news: Cristiano Ronaldo and Conor McGregor step into the ring - Goal.com MMA LIFE SHOP

I am excited to offer a few easy but powerful components when dealing with any street fight self defense situations. You will learn methods for averting confrontation and how to take care of a potential attacker.

Street fighting self defense moves #1 - Be attentive of whatever environment you are in Maintain a constant awareness wherever you are, including the people you deal with each and every day. Stay vigilant about your surroundings so as not to become a victim of another brutal attack.

Street fighting self defense tips #2 - Be prepared to strike first before a threatening situation escalates Raise both hands up to your head and each elbow gathered closely against your torso to let the assailant know you do not want any trouble but be prepared to initiate a fight barring any other possibilities.

Street fighting self defense moves #3 - Make sure not to allow yourself to be brought to the ground in a street fight If this happens immediately gain back a standing position. I recommend not implementing any Jiujitsu moves as it has proven ineffectual during street fights.

Street fighting self defense tips #4 - Debilitate an attacker through brutal martial arts techniques. Utilize wicked moves to claw at the eyes, punish the throat with brutal punches, kick vulnerable shins and sensitive knees, and do not forget to kick the groin area until the attacker is completely incapacitated. You have just learned four ways to better defend yourself.

Always stay physically in shape and take whatever martial arts training you can, that incorporates reality based drills and techniques!
